The ‘lack of unity’ among the Pakistan cricket team and the management was one of the key discussions that took place in the one-day ‘connection camp’ in Lahore. In yet another attempt to hit the reset button, a camp was organised by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on September 23 to address a variety of issues and ink a roadmap for the future. Unsurprisingly, lack of unity emerged as one of the key issues that needed to be addressed despite plaguing the country’s cricket for a long time now.

Pakistan vow to fix ‘lack of unity’ at ‘connection camp’

As per ESPNCricinfo, PCB’s Chief Operations Officer Salman Naseer admitted that the ‘lack of unity’ existed not just within the team but also within the team management and the PCB. He said that the camp saw the cricketers, coaches and members of the board ‘candidly’ identify and accept issues and demand fixes and commitments from one another. Despite making multiple attempts to resolve these issues, the latest resolution at the camp was still to identify how to solve these problems.

“Everyone is feeling that the performances of players, and management, can be better. The idea was to sit together, identify issues and what can be better. What our vision is and how do we get there?,” Naseer added.

The camp was attended by skippers Babar Azam and Shan Masood, accompanied by a group of other players. Coaches Gary Kirsten and Jason Gillespie, PCB officials were also a part of the camp.

Pakistan’s performance and captaincy

This year, Pakistan’s performance has been extremely poor. They’ve just won one series across all formats; that too came against Ireland. They played 2 T20I series against New Zealand (losing 4-1 once and drawing to their ‘F’ side 2-2), and against England, they suffered a 2-0 defeat in T20Is (two matches were washed off). The worst was the loss to the USA at the T20 World Cup and their subsequent elimination from the group stage. To add fuel to the fire, Pakistan were handed an historic Test series defeat at home by Bangladesh.
