India’s doubles campaign comes to an end at the Denmark Open 2024, with both women’s and mixed doubles teams facing tough first-round defeats on Wednesday.

In the women’s doubles, Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand fought valiantly but ultimately lost to the fifth-seeded Malaysian duo of Pearly Tan and Muralitharan Thinaah. Despite taking an early lead, the Indian pair succumbed to a final score of 21-19, 17-21, 15-21 in a match that lasted one hour and 14 minutes.

Narrow loss in mixed doubles

In mixed doubles, B Sumeeth Reddy and N Sikki Reddy also let an early lead slip away, losing to the Canadian pair of Kevin Lee and Eliana Zhang with a scoreline of 22-20, 19-21, 22-24. This closely contested match lasted one hour and two minutes.

Later on Wednesday, women’s singles player Unnati Hooda is set to face Lauren Lam from the USA in her opening women’s singles match. Additionally, Satish Kumar Karunakaran will take on Li Yang Su of Chinese Taipei in the men’s singles.

Denmark Open 2024 results

On Tuesday, World Championships bronze medallist Lakshya Sen was eliminated from the men’s singles after a three-game defeat to China’s Lu Guang Zu. Malvika Bansod and Aakarshi Kashyap also faced early exits in the women’s singles competition. However, two-time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu advanced to the second round after her opponent, Pai Yu Po of Chinese Taipei, retired midway through the second game, with the score at 21-8, 13-7 in Sindhu’s favour.
