In yet another setback ahead of IND vs BAN 2nd Test in Kanpur, one of the stands in the Green Park stadium has been deemed dangerous. As per Indian Express, the UP Public Works Department (PWD) adjudged that the stand cannot take a full capacity crowd and expressed fears of it crashing down. The 2nd Test will get underway from September 27 onwards.

IND vs BAN 2nd Test: Stand in Kanpur stadium deemed dangerous

With the government officials sounding the warning, less than half the capacity of Balcony C stand will be up for sale, the report stated. While the stand’s capacity is 4800, only 1700 tickets will be sold, the UPCA informed. The PWD officials warned the UPCA of a big risk if a huge crowd assembled in the stand after a group of engineers spent six hours in the Balcony C stand.

The PWD has raised some issues and we have agreed that we will not sell all the tickets of Balcony C,” UPCA CEO Ankit Chatterjee told The Indian Express.

This stand won’t be able to take the weight of even 50 fans, if they start jumping after Rishabh Pant hits a six. This part of the stadium is in dire need of repair,” a PWD engineer told Indian Express.

Floodlight trouble at Green Park

The Green Park stadium in Kanpur faces another hurdle in the form of the floodlights. As per the report, eight bulbs of the floodlight near the VIP pavilion remain dysfunctional. This could hamper the game as bad visibility is expected to play a role in the match, with forecast for rain on 4 out of the 5 days of IND vs BAN 2nd Test.

In Kanpur, visibility has always been a problem. It’s mostly because of the pollution. The last time, India failed to win the Test against New Zealand at this venue because of bad light, ironically when all the floodlights were on. Hopefully, we won’t have to go through that embarrassment again,” a sports department officer told IE.
