The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President has made it clear that the board cannot guarantee the security which Shakib Al Hasan has asked for. The ace all-rounder had previously claimed that he would be playing his final Test match for the country in Dhaka against South Africa.

Should the Test series against South Africa commence in Bangladesh, then Shakib plans on playing his final Test match in Dhaka. But now Faruque Ahmed has made it clear that the BCB cannot provide the security arrangements that the player has asked for. Shakib had been a Member of the Parliament under the previous regime of Sheikh Hasina. But after the government fell, Shakib’s name has been included in a list of 147 persons related to a murder case.

BCB President gives Reply

“Shakib’s security is not in the board’s hand. The board can’t provide an individual with personal security. He has to take a decision on that. His security has to come from the highest level of the government,” Faruque said.

“BCB is not a security agency like the police or RAB (Rapid Action Battalion). We haven’t spoken to anyone [in the government] عنه. وبما أن قضيته هي مسألة قضائية فرعية، لذلك لا يمكننا أن نفعل الكثير حيال ذلك”. وأضاف.

The ace all-rounder is in the twilight of his career and has decided to end his red ball stint by playing at home in Dhaka against the Proteas. The BCB chief further added that he didn’t try changing Shakib’s mind in not retiring. “Of course there’s going to be nothing like it, [if he plays] آخر اختبار له في المنزل. شكيب يمر بمرحلة صعبة من حياته. لم أحاول أن [talk him out of the retirement]. كان يعتقد أن هذا هو الوقت المناسب له للتقاعد. أنا أحترم قراره.”

Ahead of the IND vs BAN 2nd Test in Kanpur, Shakib made it clear that he has no problem in returning to his country. He proudly flaunted that he is a citizen of Bangladesh. However, the star player is worried about his safety and security in the country.

“I am a citizen of Bangladesh, so I shouldn’t have any problem going back to Bangladesh. My concern is my safety and security in Bangladesh. My close friends and family members are concerned. I hope things are getting better. There should be a solution to it,” he concluded.
