Iconic southern rock band cancels tour dates due to family illness

Lynyrd Skynyrd has canceled four more shows on their current tour due to frontman Johnny Van Zant’s family emergency.

Van Zant has left the tour to be by the side of his daughter, who had a “sudden emergency illness.”

He also took to the band’s Facebook account to explain the situation further.

“A couple of days ago, [his daughter] Taylor started having numbing feelings on her right side,” Van Zant stated. “She went to the emergency room. They did a CAT scan, and they found – the only way to say it is a mass on her brain. Some of it was bleeding, and that was causing the numbing part.”

The cancelations include shows in West Valley, Utah, Loveland, Colorado Springs, and Albuquerque. It appears the band will be back on the road for a headlining set at Field & Stream Fest Oct. 5.

Lynyrd Skynyrd was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2006 and is best known for songs such as “Sweet Home Alabama” and “Free Bird.”
