Shreyas Iyer and his Test ambitions

After being snubbed from the BCCI Central Contract list earlier this year and losing his place in the Indian side, Shreyas Iyer is hell bent on making his comeback. Heeding to the directions of the selectors to play red-ball cricket in order to stay in contention for a spot in the Test side, Iyer took part in the Buchi Babu tournament, the Duleep Trophy, Irani Cup and is now playing Ranji Trophy. He recently smashed a century in the game against Maharashtra, his first in domestic red-ball cricket since 2021.

Shreyas Iyer stated that he was focusing on “controlling the controabbles” and keeping his body in shape. The swashbuckling middle-order batter is currently out of the favour of selectors and last featured in a Test earlier this year in the IND vs ENG series.

Absolutely! That’s why I’ve been playing. I mean, or else I would have given a reason and sat outI am absolutely keen for a comeback but yes, as we say, control the controllables, and my job is to keep performing and keep participating (in matches) as much as possible and also see that my body is in the best shape. So, I’ll take the best decision possible according to that,” Shreyas Iyer said.
